Year 4

Class Teacher- Mr Arnold

Trainee Teacher- Mrs Helsden

In Year 4 the children are encouraged to become more independent and adopt a determined approach to their learning. We use the eight learning characters to encourage children to have a positive attitude to their work and believe that they can get better at absolutely anything. Children will be expected to take pride in everything they do and ensure that this is shown in the work they produce.

This year we will continue the Tower of Books Challenge where children are encouraged to read 30 books of a variety of types and subjects. Reading lessons consist of book studies, reading comprehension tasks or small group work with the teacher or support staff. Practise is one of the best ways of getting better at anything and therefore we recommend children read an appropriate book for approximately twenty minutes per day.

PE takes place on Monday and Thursday. Please make sure that your child has indoor and outdoor PE kit in on both of these days.

Homework is set on Friday and is due in on Wednesday. It will consist of a maths task, a grammar task and a written task. Spellings are tested every other week. There is a spelling list available for you which outlines the spellings for the whole year.

Attitude and Behaviour

At the start of the year, children create a class charter which they are expected to follow at all times. The majority of these rules relate to learning, respect and safety. Children are rewarded with house points for positive behaviour and having a good attitude to learning. We use the website ClassDojo to track positive behaviour and a ‘Choice Chart’ system to discourage undesirable behaviour.
